What a history of BlackJack Presbyterian Church. Going back to 1826, the old cemetery and sign on the church building helps us to approximate the date. Mr. R W Matthews, member and longtime historian of the area served as our program of the night. What a history! Also, what a building is the Annex-Fellowship Hall. The 10 pillars bordering the sides of the building are cedar trees cut from the cemetery and used as support for the roof. The etching into the sides of the cedars allowed the 2x6s to support the wall and roof structures. The walnut stained cedars set the tone for the sighted inside roof of tongue and groove wood. What a sight!
We enjoyed a potluck meal complete with the history of 'Silent Night' by Mrs. Billie Breedlove; even, sang the song as well as 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'. Join us next year on the 4th Thursday of January, 2006, at the Batesville Public Library.
